Voter Turnout

Turnout was 57.4%. This was low, but it's worth nothing that there was a huge youth turnout. Seniors did not show up at all tonight. We think they were sleeping.

Euthanize the vote?

Voting!

Polls are closing in just a minute. In a short amount of time we will be able to provide you with projections.

Polling

100% of voters are Vincent House residents. Seamus may try to vote, but he's not going to be able to!

100% of voters are awesome!

Presidential Speeches

There are arguments over who should speak first. Nadji is speaking on behalf of Miel. He is also holding Miel. This could be a huge advantage. His theme tonight "give me a shot".

Jonah says Nadji has put words in Meil's mouth. He calls Nadji "elitist" with his suit and his fifth floor room. He feels he would make a better president, and is always open to listen to your concerns.

We are now ready to vote.

Pat

Pat will opt out of making a speech since Blair is not here. This will help make him look like a good sport. This may very well help Pat in this election.

HANDIcapable

A handicapped woman just entered the polling place. The spirit of democracy is alive even in those who must struggle to make it to the election. Way to go Vincent House!

Also, speculation that Jonah may disappear like Snowball in Animal Farm. Hmmmm.

Waiting Outside

I am waiting outside the apartment. The council seems to be having a spirited discussion, but I cannot hear what is being said. We are expected to be allowed in any moment for the house meeting/election. Who knows what will happen?

Election is On?

It appears to be very possible that the election is still on. We'll know for sure in a few minutes.

Also, Nadji is wearing a suit. This is a smart strategy. People love suits.

Constitution to be Suspended?

Fears are growing that in light of so many residents being absent, the Vincent House constitution will be suspended. This means that the election may not follow the guidelines set out by the constitution. A possible scenario could be an election that lasts from today and extends into tomorrow. This will all be in the name of fairness, but some residents fear the precedent that circumventing the constitution will set. Still, most would probably approve of this decision.

A Message from Barack Obama

I emailed the Obama transition team yesterday asking if the president-elect would like to stop by the Vincent House election. Though Mr. Obama is not able to make it tonight, he has released a statement about the Vincent House election:

Mr. Sentman,

It pleases me to see that young people at the University of Chicago are fired up about democracy and the power of voting. I have a prior engagement tonight, but I wish you all the best in running a fair, exciting election. It sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun with this. I'm sure all those negative ads are just for amusement! Again, best of luck to all the candidates in the Vincent House election! Maybe we'll be able to work together someday!

Sincerely,
Barack Obama

Election in Doubt?

I'll be live blogging throughout election day!

But rumor has it many flights have been delayed. This calls into question whether or not the election will actually be held tonight. Or maybe it will simply begin tonight and extend into tomorrow? Perhaps many Vincent House voters will simply be disenfranchised. It's going to be an exciting night no matter what happens, and I'll be here periodically to update the coverage as it develops!
